The Neustadt (new town) in the north is characterised by old industrial sites, which break up the townscape. On the remains of the industrial landscape, the first section of a landscape axis, which will in future form a curve from the Neustadt over the river Saale to the old town, has been completed. Here, the riverbank and the old and new towns will be characterised by different types of landscape. At the same time, the locations of the resident food industry will be strengthened, which will help fund the green spaces. The city wishes to establish vocational schools for this sector, thereby securing the next generation of skilled workers and fostering the settlement of new companies. Housing especially designed to meet this need will be developed in the Neustadt.
