Wittenberg boasts a large number of arts, denominational, and research-related educational facilities, besides its many monuments linked to the persona of Luther himself. To improve levels of cooperation and thus create an educational landscape of international calibre, the Campus Wittenberg association was formed in 2005, which has since been joined by forty-six institutions along with business and other partners. The association has jointly devised new educational and learning programmes and initiated numerous structural improvements at seven sites such as Cranach Hof, the Franciscan Monastery, or the Old Girls School in the old town. Besides providing appealing educational options for local people, the non-university Campus Wittenberg vision seeks to attract interested parties nationally as well as from abroad to come and enjoy life in Wittenberg as “temporary residents”.
